Sports Reference Menchie 1-1 Celtic
The two Scottish teams made up in personality and talent, but again, Celtic had the upper hand in the pitch at Easter Road stadium on Tuesday night.
Lionel Messi may be at home in any of the three La Liga countries, but the Argentine has yet to achieve what has been done for the Irish side Hibernian FC.
Celtic returned to the top of the Scottish Premiership table after a 1-1 draw against the struggling Hibs. Brendan Rodgers’ men, the favorites to win the league this season, held an advantage over their opponents through a superior goal difference.
But the match was too tight to call in the first half, and until half-time, the goals were few and far between.
In the 46th minute, the weekend hero, Scott Sinclair, put the visitors ahead. James Forrest created the opportunity with a magnificent pass up the pitch which allowed the England international Sinclair to open the scoring.
McCall’s team, however, had an answer and it came from the last minute of the first-half. Charlie Mulgrew equalized for the home side with a header past Craig Gordon.
Rodgers’ men took the lead in the 49th minute with Callum McGregor. The Scotland international chipped the Hibs goalkeeper thanks to a great pass from Olivier Ntcham.
The early season favorites sealed the win to maintain their perfect league record.
At this stage in the season, Celtic have 53 points, while Hibs have 42 points.
However, a win over nearest challengers Rangers later in the week will push Celtic up to the summit.
The club had a topsy-turvy season in 2016/17, where they won the Scottish title in the final month, but fell short of the Treble after being eliminated in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Champions League in the last sixteen.
2019 and the Champions League will be far different as Brendan Rodgers has his players in place, in top form and primed for the big competitions.
