Earlier this summer, 50 Shades of Grey star Christina Ricci sought a restraining order against her husband of nearly five years, James Heerdegen. She was also served with a divorce petition, which the actress obtained in court on Wednesday.
Ricci was joined in court by lawyers and her mother, Lynn Weaver. The actress wore a loose, long-sleeved black maxi dress as she spoke to the judge during the proceedings. In her request for a restraining order, Ricci described Heerdegen’s treatment of her as “abuse”, saying he “will further behave violently and violently toward me” and seeking a 30-day delay to “get back into my life” and “get help”.
James Heerdegen’s psychiatrist testified that the actor had “suffered several emotional and psychological injuries” throughout their relationship. According to the psychiatrist, Heerdegen does not engage in “extreme rage or sudden and abrupt outbursts”.
The judge signed off on the restraining order. Heerdegen withdrew his request to move out of their Manhattan apartment earlier this week, leaving their shared New York home in his name.
Ricci and Heerdegen first met on the set of TNT’s Pan Am. A source told People that Ricci had been in “a serious relationship” with the actor. “They had been dating since the beginning of the year,” the source explained. “It went public when the pilot season started.”
The actress is best known for her role as Squeaky Fromme in 1997’s Se7en. She has also appeared in Blue Crush, Monster, and I, Robot, among other films.
